Newcastle Fringe: a Festival of Fun, Creativity & Performances

Newcastle Fringe Festival is back for 2023. This festival is a diverse, inspirational and super creative festival that showcases a smorgasbord of performing arts. This year, there’s a huge line-up of exciting and interactive shows just for kids! Sing along to the music of The Quokkas, explore magical places with Lizzieland, learn new things with Jack & Alex’s Silly-Yak Adventures, or get stinky, slimy and downright deeeesgusting with Mr Snotbottom. 

With two jam packed weekends of entertainment from 9-19 March and a jumping castle at Sydney Junction Hotel for the first weekend of Fringe, there’s something for the whole family. LizzieLand

LizzieLand is a fun and interactive kids show with music, dance, stories and games. Featuring Lizzie singing and playing “Mr Violin” and “Elektrina” this show will have you singing along to your favourite tunes for under 8s (Wiggles /Twinkle/ LizzieLand originals) and laughing at the Party Bus Animals as they help Lizzie tell funny stories about their day to day lives. LizzieLand is a place where kids can be themselves and and get right in on the action. A highlight is always the Butterfly Song where Lizzie provides beautiful butterfly wings and flowers for everyone. It’s truly magical.

Jack and Alex’s Silly-Yak Adventure

Jack the Silly-Yak and his friend Alex love to be silly, have fun, sing super loud and play! 
Jack’s been diagnosed with Coeliac Disease, he’s finding it tricky to like his new food and isn’t feeling like his fun self. 

Big changes can be hard, but with adventure, fun and creativity anything is manageable!
On this fun filled adventure Alex needs your awesome dancing, big imaginations, creative fingers and loud singing to help get Jack back to his Silly Coeliac Self. 

So Silly-Yak, will you come along to see what yummy and funny things they will discover!?
(Parents come for free, tickets are only for children and include a spot for the performance and the Creative Play Session after).

The Quokkas

If you have babies, toddlers, kids under 7, and haven’t seen The Quokkas, you’re in for an absolute musical treat. If you have, you’re already booking to see the Best Album nominees for the 2022 Kids Music Awards again!

The Quokkas make music to make a difference. So come sing, dance, and have fun as they play all of their hits: Opposites, I Like You The Way You Are, Here Comes The Dinosaur, Monster Truck; and some children’s classics as well. With over a million views and streams, these Newy locals know how to entertain your little one!

Mr Snotbottom 

He’s the Prince of Putrid, The Willy Wonky of Weird! He’s Mr Snot bottom! A deeeesgusting kids comedian brimming with all the oooey, gooey, yucky, slimy topics kids love: boogers, bottoms, pop-offs and smells!

Expect snot-loads of gross-tastic gags, tasteless tunes and just wrong routines perfect for weird kids 5 and up and their even weirder parents!

You can also buy tickets at the Fringe Box Office. It will be open in James St Plaza, Hamilton to purchase tickets to the amazing array of Newcastle Fringe Festival shows on Saturday 11 March 6-8pm, Saturday  18 March 12:00 – 1:00pm and Saturday 18 March 6-8pm.

The Pop-up Box Office will also be providing FREE Family entertainment in the Plaza and along Beaumont Street during the festival period, with surprise performances by some of the wonderful Fringe Festival artists featured in this year’s lineup.

There will be something for the whole family with roving performers and pop-up shows ranging from children’s comedy and theatre, magic, singing, music, circus, face painting and to top it off a fire show at dusk!
