Get the kids out of the house and on their skateboard or scooter. There’s tons of skate parks in Newcastle, Lake Macquarie & the Hunter where kids, teens and adults can shred.

Check out the list below for a skate park near you. Most skate parks are outdoor and free to use but there’s also a few indoor paid options. If we’ve missed a spot, let us know and we’ll add it to the list.

Newcastle

Bar Beach – Empire Park Skate Park

Description: Popular with skaters of all ages, Empire Park Skate Park (also known as Bar Beach Skate Park), is located opposite Bar Beach and offers wonderful beach views. There’s lots of parking nearby, with a park harder to secure on weekends and public/school holidays. It can also get very busy on these days. The main feature of this skate park is the large bowl, varying in depth from 7 feet to 11 feet. There’s also a plaza-style street skating section. Public toilets are located nearby and, with lots of shaded seating, it’s a good choice for families. Head across to Swell Kiosk when you need a bite to eat.

Location: Opposite Bar Beach on Memorial Drive, Newcastle.

Elermore Vale Bowl Skate Park

Description: A large concrete bowl with mostly curved edges varying in depth from 3 feet to 5 feet. This park is suited to BMX bikes and scooters as well as skateboards.

Location: Located in Elermore Vale Park, off Croudace Road (behind the shopping centre).

Islington Bowl Skate Park

Description: A concrete bowl with intermediate to expert gradient. This skate bowl is suited to more advanced skaters, beginners might be better off skating at nearby Mayfield Skate Park. The nearest public toilets are in Islington Park (near Phoebe Street) and the closest food and toilets are at the Metro Islington.

Location: Islington Park, Maitland Road, Islington.

Maryland Skate Park

Description: Located next to the Maryland Shopping Centre, this is a good little skate park for kids of all ages and suitable for scooters and bikes as well as skateboards. There’s a concrete half pipe and metal, street-style section including a quarter pipe, rails and a multi sided and sized pyramid in the middle. There’s also shaded seating. The toilets at the nearby oval are only open if there is an event, making the nearest toilets the ones at the shopping centre.

Location: Grange Avenue Reserve, Boundary Road, Maryland.

Mayfield Skate Park

Description: This skate park has been designed by skateboarders and suits riders of all levels, including kids on bikes and scooters. It features an open bowl at one end and middle, quarter and flat banks at the other as well as a variety of concrete blocks. On a main road location with on-street parking, there are public toilets nearby (in the park) as well as some large, shady trees and benches.

Location: Dangar Park, Maitland Road, Mayfield.

South Newcastle Beach Skate Park

CURRENTLY UNDER CONSTRUCTION. The upgraded South Newcastle Beach Skate Park will feature an accessible skate bowl and nearby Bather’s Way will have new public amenities, landscaping, shade and seating, exercise equipment and viewing areas. Expected completion is Autumn 2023.

New Lambton Skate Park

Description: A neat little skate park for kids of all ages and skating abilities, this skate park is the popular and common pre-fab style skate park. Featuring a 7 foot quarter pipe, 4 foot spine ramp, slider bar and a volcano styled fun box, it is located near Ford Oval. You’ll find a small playground nearby and lots of big trees for shade, but no seating.

Location: Corner Wallarah and Womboin Streets, New Lambton.

South Stockton Active Hub Skate Park

Skate park Newcastle

Description: A street-style skate plaza great for kids of all ages and suitable for scooters, skateboards, rollerskates or bikes. Featuring handrails, angled ledges, an A-frame kicker, zig zag ledge and an undercover half pipe, the South Stockton Active Hub has a large playground one side and a skate park the other. In between is an undercover barbecue area with shaded seating and two gas barbecues. There are public toilets at the park. Catch the ferry over for the ultimate day out as the Active Hub is located near the Stockton Ferry Terminal. There’s also plenty of parking at the terminal car park.

Location: Griffith Park, Stockton (near Stockton Ferry Terminal).

Stockton Skate Park

Description: Located near the Stockton Swimming Centre, this is Stockton’s original skate park. It’s great for kids of all ages and skating abilities, featuring a half pipe, ramps and a street area with a quarter pipe, fun box, wedges and rails. There is plenty of parking at the Stockton Swimming Centre car park or the Stockton Breakwall car park. Sit up on the hill under the shade of the trees while your kids scooter or skate. The closest public toilets are located near the Stockton Active Hub. Follow the path through the Holiday Park, located opposite and you’ll emerge at Lexie’s Cafe.

Location: King Street, Stockton.

Wallsend Skate Park

Description: This park was originally designed for BMX bikes and is used in local BMX competitions. It now caters for skaters as well. It is a large, popular, transition-focused park with various banks, transitions, ledges and rails, a spine ramp, a jump box and a mogul. Great for kids of all ages, beginners through to advanced, on skateboards, bikes or scooters. There is shade and seating. This park can get busy on weekends/public holidays and in the school holidays.

Location: 93 Cowper Street, Wallsend.

Lake Macquarie

Bolton Point Skate Park

Description: An all-concrete skate park, Bolton Point Skate Park was designed to include BMX riders as well. It has a medium level ramp ark with hips, ledges, fun box and a 5-foot mini ramp.

Location: On the corner of Bay Road and Quigley Road, Bolton Point.

Bonnells Bay Skate Park

Description: Located at the Bonnells Bay Community Centre, this concrete skate park features a quarter pipe, rails and ramps. There is a small playground nearby.

Location: Bonnells Bay Community Centre, Fishery Point Road, Bonnells Bay.

Cardiff Skate Park

Description: A modular skate park featuring a small box, 3-foot quarters and 4-foot flat banks. There is a small playground located nearby in Wilkinson Park.

Location: Wilkinson Park, 173 Myall Road, Cardiff.

Cameron Park (Pasterfield Sports Complex)

Description: A large, concrete skate park with a kidney-shaped skate bowl, street-style elements and lighting. You’ll also find a playground, outdoor fitness equipment, dedicated parkour area and netball courts at the Sports Complex along with public toilets, picnic tables and shade shelters.

Location: Pasterfield Sports Complex, Horizon Avenue, Cameron Park.

Charlestown Skate Park

Description: Two flow bowls from 1.2m-3m, mini ramp, transitions and more. Suitable for all ages and skating abilities plus BMX bikes and scooters. Plenty of shaded seating. Busy on weekends and in school holidays.

Location: Corner of the Pacific Highway and Frederick Street, Charlestown.

Croudace Bay Skate Park

Description: This skate park is located 300 metres south of Thomas H Halton Park. The main entry to the park is on Bareki Road in Croudace Bay. You’ll find parking at this location. There is also a car park located just north by the Croudace Bay boat ramp. From here, it’s an easy walk or skate to the park. The skate park is designed as a street plaza-style skate park with quarter pipe, flatbanks, hubbas, downrails and manual pad. There is a toilet block located just outside of the playground. Accessible toilet available as well as baby change facilities in three of the toilet cubicles. There’s an additional toilet block located at the hit wall/basketball court north of the playground.

Location: Thomas H Halton Park, Macquarie Drive, Croudace Bay.

Holmesville Skate Park

Description: A shared-use concrete skate park with a quarter pipe, rails and ledges.

Location: Kevin Evans Oval, Appletree Road, Holmesville.

Parrey’s Indoor Skate Park

Description: Parrey’s Indoor Skate Park offers 3-hour sessions for $20, all-day sessions for $35 as well as lessons and parties. The park is suitable for skate, scooter and rider enthusiasts with a wide variety of ramps, rails, stairs and obstacles. Parrey’s cater for all rider levels. They also have an online shop for skate, scooter, inline and BMX.

Location: 38 Munibung Road, Cardiff.

Morisset Skate Park

Description: With plenty of parking nearby, BBQ’s, lighting, picnic tables and shelters, the large Morisset Skate Park is a must-visit for skating enthusiasts in the Lake Macquarie area. The park features a quarter pipe, flatbanks, and hubbas.

Location: Bernie Goodwin Memorial Park, 59 Newcastle Street, Morisset.

Rathmines Skate Park

Description: A concrete donut bowl with a small bowl extension.

Location: Rathmines Park, 28 Stilling Street, Rathmines.

Swansea Skate Park

Description: A huge skate park with plenty of parking, nearby public toilets, a nearby playground and shaded seating. The skate park features a bowl, rails, ledges, banks and transitions.

Location: Burragallana Reserve, 33A-33C Channel Street, Swansea

Windale (Lake Macquarie PCYC) Skate Park

Description: A flow style skate park suitable for all skill levels and disciplines, with a focus on flow and trick elements. There’s a playground, seating, footpaths and an accessible toilet block nearby.

Location: Lake Macquarie PCYC, Bahloo Reseve, 27 South Street, Windale

Wyee Skate Park

Description: Located at Wyee Community Hall, near the playground, this park is a modular-style skate park featuring a 6-foot half pipe.

Location: 114 Wyee Road, Wyee.

Cessnock / Maitland / Raymond Terrace

Boomerang Park Skate Park (Raymond Terace)

Description: One of the best skate parks in Port Stephens, Boomerang Park Skate Park is a great place for a day trip with the family. The skate park is suitable for skaters, scooters and BMX riders and has a bowl, gap bank, transitions, a rail, coping and bowled corners. There’s also a large playground nearby with toilets, shaded picnic tables and a water fountain, exercise equipment and a fenced, off-leash dog area.

Location: Irrawang Street, Raymond Terrace.

Cessnock PCYC Indoor Skate Park

Description: The indoor skate park at the Cessnock PCYC is available for casual use during the club’s opening hours. There is a cost to use the park: Adults $15/day, Kids $10/day, U/6yrs-free. A 700 square metre skate park, it includes a bowl, a large mini ramp, curves and transitions.

Location: Mills Crescent, Cessnock.

East Maitland Skate Park

Description: On the site of the old quarry at East Maitland, this large skate park features an enclosed, hipped bowl, a quarter pipe and street elements including kickers, flat bar and ledges. There’s also a water fountain, shaded seating and a nearby hit/netball court.

Location: Lawes Street, East Maitland.

Harold Gregson Skate Park (Maitland)

Description: The new Harold Gregson Park Skate Park forms part of the Maitland City Council Harold Gregson Park Youth Space, with works to begin January 2023. Expected completion date TBA.

Location: Harold Gregson Reserve, 285-287 High Street, Maitland.

Kurri Kurri Skate Park

Description: Located next to the Kurri Kurri Aquatic and Fitness Centre, this ramp-style skate park has a small taco and hips. There is an undercover picnic table and public toilet 200m away.

Location: Northcote Street, Kurri Kurri.

Metford Skate Park

Description: A pre-fab skate park located close to the train station, but also plenty of nearby parking. There’s also a basketball hoop at this park.

Location: McCubbin Close, Metford.

Millfield Skate Park

Description: Located near the Crawforville Community Hall, Stage 1 of this skate park has been completed and incorporates street elements. This park is suitable for BMX bikes and scooters as well as skateboards.

Location: Crawfordville Park, Bennett Street, Millfield.

Rutherford Skate Park

Description: Concrete park with a wide, 4-foot mini ramp, 2 plaza-style areas with manual pads, ledges, hips, flat bars and a bank. Located near Woolworths with a service station and KFC nearby.

Location: 2 Alexandra Avenue, Rutherford.

Thornton Skate Park

Description: Pre-fab style skate park in a bushland setting. Undercover seating. Small playground nearby.

Location: Thornton Oval, Taylor Avenue, Thornton.

Woodberry Skate Park

Description: The new Woodberry Skate opened in January, 2023. Built in consultation with the community. the skate park features a skate bowl, a street section, a BMX pump track and more. It’s suitable for skateboards, scooters, BMXs, rollerskates and rollerblades. A multipurpose court, adjacent to the park, will be open soon.
