Stockton Active Hub – Stockton Playground & Skate Park

The Stockton playground and skate park are amazing. Dubbed the South Stockton Active Hub, it’s located in Griffiths Park in Stockton next to the ferry terminal so really easy to access if you’re coming via ferry.

You’ll easily spot the playground as you approach by ferry or car. With great play equipment and skate facilities plus fantastic harbour views of Newcastle, it’s a favourite for both kids and adults.

The Active Hub consists of two separate sections. The playground featuring softfall flooring is on one side and the concrete skate plaza is on the other.

The playground suits a variety of ages. There’s small play equipment for active toddlers who like climbing and going down small slides.

For kids who like to climb, there’s climbing nets and spiderwebs to clamber on.

There’s a really cool revolving rope spinning swing that seats four kids. The kids have fun spinning and then falling off.

There’s also the two flying foxes that have a great view of Newcastle Harbour.

A popular play item is the scoop and pulley system in which kids could scoop and dump sand.

The two-storey slide is a hit with the kids and had a constant stream of kids climbing up to slide down

Dividing the playground and skate park are shelters and barbecue facilities so parents can watch one kid play in the playground and another in the skatepark. The grass is a nice touch and feels great underfoot.

Although there are two large sheltered areas, seating is limited so bring picnic blankets or folding camp chairs. It’s a popular choice for kids birthday parties with the barbecue and picnic facilities.

The skate park is set up as a street-style skate plaza and is popular with kids on scooters and skateboards.

It features handrails, angled ledges, an A-frame kicker, zig zag ledge and a half pipe.

NwK Verdict: It’s a fantastic harbour front playground and skate park. Great spot to enjoy the harbour views. Additional shaded seating areas would be appreciated as it is popular.

Nearby Cafe: Whispers on the Wharf is a cafe operating out of a shipping container located next to Stockton Active Hub. General Washington Hotel is nearby on Hunter Street if you want lunch. There are additional coffee spots on Mitchell Street.
