Museum of Art and Culture Lake Macquarie (MAC)

MAC Lake Macquarie hold regular Kids Workshops, including MAC Drawing, for kids aged 12+. They also offer Wednesday Art Club from 4.30-5.30pm for ages 6-12. Children can create an artwork to take home using acrylic paint and enjoy exploring artmaking techniques in a structured but fun environment, with inspiration from the exhibitions. Learn to Play at Hunter Ice Skating Stadium is available to all ages, male and female. Beginners focus on remedial skills such as skating, backward skating, crossovers, stopping and basic stick handling and puck control. At the end of each ten week section (based around school terms) players will be appraised on the skills they have acquired. Players deemed to have “passed” Learn to Play will be invited to join a team in the local competition. Teams include 11 & under, 13 & under, 15 & under and 18 & Under.

The Newcastle & District Softball Association includes 5 clubs in the Newcastle, Maitland and Lake Macquarie areas. Their normal season runs in the summer months each year from October until March, with a break over the Christmas and New Year period. They have Junior Mixed Competitions for Under 10s to Under 18s. All NDSA competition games are held at the same time and place each week (Softball Complex, Stevenson Park, Mayfield West).

Hunter Surf Lifesaving encompasses 13 clubs from Tea Gardens to Catherine Hill Bay. Nippers is a fun way for children aged 5 to Under 14 to enjoy the beach in a safe environment. In Under 14s kids gain their Surf Rescue Certificate (SRC) and are then able to patrol and transition to seniors where they are able to complete various Surf Lifesaving Awards. Newcastle Youth Council (NYC) provides an opportunity for young people aged between 15 and 25 to provide strategic advice to the City and to develop leadership skills through planning youth initiatives and staging events during Youth Week each year. Lake Mac – Youth Council

The Lake Macquarie Youth Council (LMYC) provides an important opportunity for young people to have input into Council decisions. Lake Mac Youth Council are always on the look out for new members. If you’re aged between 12-24, live in Lake Macquarie and want to have your say on how Council policies and actions affect young people, consider submitting an application. Meetings are held each month on the second Wednesday of the month from 5-7pm. Lake Mac Youth Council welcomes visitors to sit in on meetings to see what Youth Council is all about.

The Place, Charlestown Community Centre

Eastlake Youth Centre host a free drop-in style Youth Centre at The Place on Thursday nights from 6.30-9pm. Young people aged 12 years to 17 years are invited to attend. The Youth Centre features free music, free food, free table tennis, free pool tables, games and special events.

The Place also offer the Empowering Young Women – Well-I-AM program for girls aged 12+. Well-I-AM runs over 8 weeks and there are 5 core areas of wellbeing that are taught, these include: emotional awareness and understanding, confidence, resilience, self-worth, nutrition and physical activity.
