See a Giant Whale and More at Sculptures@Scratchley

Have you noticed a large whale at Fort Scratchley? It’s just one of the 48 featured artworks at Sculptures@Scratchley, a brand new sculpture exhibition on now at Fort Scratchley until 28 May. It features a range of different artworks and it’s a great day out for the whole family.

The inaugural exhibition, Sculptures@Scratchley officially opened yesterday and runs until Sunday 28 May from Wednesday to Monday. Fort Scratchley is closed on Tuesdays.

It’s free to enter Fort Scratchley and see the exhibition. You can purchase a catalogue for $10 which has details of the different sculptures including the artist and materials. It also contains a ballot for the People’s Choice Awards.

There are 48 sculptures created by national artists located around Fort Scratchley. You’ll find some on the grassy areas, other by the buildings and even some hidden aw

As well as admiring the creativity of these artists, you can enjoy spectacular views over Nobbys Beach towards Port Stephens, city and harbour views.

The largest sculpture is Bleaching by Michael Greve, a sculpture of a whale. It’s a massive sculpture and be can seen from a long way, including across from Stockton.

Walk around the lawn areas of Fort Scratchley and you’ll see all kinds of different sculptures.

The sculptures in this exhibition are created from a variety of materials including fibreglass foam, glass mosaics, steel, limestone, ceramic, recycled metal and timber.

Each sculpture has information near it so you can read what the sculpture is all about as well as the materials used.

Take your time and see the sculptures at your own pace. We saw plenty of people relaxing on the lawn of Fort Scratchley admiring the sculptures and the views.

There are so many remarkable sculptures, big and small to discover around Fort Scratchley. The hardest thing is voting for your favourite in the People’s Choice Award.

Good to Know

Dates: Sculptures@Scratchley officially opened on May 13 and runs until Sunday 28 May. Fort Scratchley is open 10am – 4pm six days per week but closed on Tuesdays. This will be an annual sculpture event held in May.
