Riverlights Multicultural Festival, proudly presented by Greater Bank, celebrates diversity through food, music, dance and interactive experiences on Saturday 7 October 2023.
Riverlights will transform The Levee, Central Maitland into a global village.
This free family-friendly festival showcases cultures from around the globe including global cuisine, live music and dance, language classes, lantern making and cooking demonstrations. Riverlights features a diverse program of fun activities and entertainment for the whole family.
This event ends with the festival parade and magical lantern flotilla on the Hunter River; an unforgettable family experience.

LANTERN WORKSHOPS
Visit the Lantern Making tent in Bourke Street Link from 3.00pm – 7.30pm to make your own paper lanterns to be part of the event floatilla.
LANGUAGE LOUNGE
The Language Lounge is a crowd favourite at Riverlights Multicultural Festival. Guests are invited to come along and learn songs to sing, numbers and alphabet, greetings, dances, rap and poetry! Be sure to visit the language lounge between 3.00pm and 7.30pm whilst at Riverlights.
With representation from India, Sri Lanka, Tamil, Franc, Philippines, Tonga and more, there will be plenty of things for attendees to learn at the language lounge.
CULTURAL PASSPORT
This Cultural Passport, proudly brought to you by Newcastle Airport, is your guide to Riverlights Multicultural Festival. Use it to explore the performances, workshops, demonstrations and Cultural Villages throughout the event.
Visit Cultural Villages and sample the different food tastings, play games, dance, and learn about the culture. Don’t forget to get your Cultural Passport stamped as a souvenir for your visit.
ENTERTAINMENT
Riverlights will feature a number of activities and performances for patrons to view and take part in which will be scattered throughout the site.
The World Stage will be located at The Levee Central Maitland. It will be filled with vibrant and colourful school and cultural dance performances, a cultural fashion parade, world music as well as host our Citizenship Ceremony and Official Ceremony.
The Global Kitchen will be located at The Levee Central Maitland. The Global Kitchen will feature different flavours from around the globe with a range of expert presenters taking the stage to share their top cooking tips and tricks using delicious ingredients!
CULTURAL VILLAGES
Riverlights Cultural Villages are the heart of the festival.
Representing different nations and cultures, in 2023 the Cultural Villages will offer free interactive experiences, delicious food sampling and have arts and crafts for sale.
Visit each one to taste traditional food, learn more about the culture and be sure to collect a stamp in your official Riverlights Cultural Passport, which are available from festival volunteers at the event.
