Join City of Newcastle for a spectacular return of New Year’s Eve celebrations to the Foreshore and cap off 2022 with a dazzling 9pm fireworks and airshow display over our iconic harbour!
This year, the Queens Wharf precinct will be transformed into an inclusive and interactive multi-sensory journey along the foreshore.
People of all ages and abilities are invited to explore the vibrant wonderland of art, Indigenous culture, music, play and imagination.
- See artists and entertainers, sculptures and installations, as well as Indigenous arts, and take a self-guided journey along the harbour’s Indigenous Art Walk while Indigenous dancers and musicians rove through the space.
- Listen to the reggae, soul, disco, pop sounds playing from our three pop-up DJ areas including one exclusive kids music zone.
- Smell and taste the incredible food and drinks from our local food truck vendors.
- Get hands on and create your own artworks with interactive crochet, paper and traditional Indigenous ochre painting workshops, and have your face-painted in traditional Indigenous ornamentation.
Take part in First Nations cultural workshops. - Play in a world of inflatables, obstacle courses and carnival rides, launch into 2023 on the bungee trampoline, or try your hand at velcro axe throwing.

The artistic heart of Newcastle will be on full display with a self-guided sensory walk through the Queens Wharf – Market Street Lawn precinct features installations and sculptures from six Novocastrians including Jen Denzin and sensory artist Bliss Cavanagh.
The precinct will also include a VIP Sensory Area to create a whimsical, engaging, and memorable experience for all families, including those with disabilities and autism spectrum.
The sensory area will feature an accessible and interactive games lounge, a sensory garden with flower sculptures and a giant, illuminated sensory caterpillar, and much more. Bookings are required for the VIP Sensory Area and can be made here.
The crescendo of the evening is a combined air show and fireworks display.
The main event of this year’s celebrations will feature three jaw-dropping aerobatic flyovers (commencing at approximately 6.30pm) courtesy of Paul Bennet Airshows and their fleet of aerobatic and war planes.
A fantastic finale will see a fourth flyover, just before last light, with a colourful pyrotechnics display launching from the plane. Fireworks fans will also be able to enjoy the traditional display that illuminates Newcastle Harbour from 9pm.
