The solution is a dog-friendly beach. Head to a dog-friendly beach in Newcastle, Lake Macquarie and Port Stephens. We’ve got ocean, harbour and lake beaches to suit every dog and owner.

Horseshoe Beach, Newcastle

This harbour beach is a favourite for dog owners. Your dog and your kids can enjoy the gentle waves at Horseshoe Beach.

Redhead Beach

In Lake Macquarie, you can take dogs and kids down to Redhead Beach which has an off-leash area for dogs. Park at Cain Street Reserve and walk along the bush path to the beach, once on the beach you can set your dog free for a run and a swim. The leash-free area is between second and third creeks. Dogs must be under effective control at all times and are prohibited north of First Creek at Redhead Beach. 

Blacksmiths Beach

Blacksmiths Beach is also a dog-friendly beach. The leash-free area covers the part of Nine Mile Beach extending from the beach car park off Awabakal Avenue, northerly to the Belmont Golf Club boundary.

Pendlebury Park, Bonnells Bay

Bounded by Grand Parade and the Lake, Pendlebury Park Off-leash area is a peaceful and picturesque spot to let your dog off-leash, for a run or a swim. 

Hams Beach Off-Leash Area, Caves Beach

Access is via Mawson Close. Park at the Hams Beach car park and the off-leash area is from the car park to the ocean. A great 24 hour dog beach to take your four-legged pal for a run and a swim.

Bagnalls Beach, Corlette

This beach is especially for dogs. Leash-free 24 hours. A beautiful, sandy beach with shallow, calm water for your furry friend to swim. Lots of parking, shade and great views of the Bay.

Billy Beach, Mallabula

Another beautiful, shallow beach for your dog to run, swim and play with other dogs. Leash-free 24 hours. Park at the Caswell Reserve carpark and enjoy the lovely walk along the boardwalk (on-lead) with your dog, before letting them free for a run on Billy Beach.
