Go for a swim. There are lots of pools to enjoy with your family in Newcastle, Lake Macquarie & the Hunter. Some of them are outdoor pools and only available at certain times of the year while others are indoor pools and open all year round.

Lambton Pool

Lambton Pool Aquatic Playground

There lots of choice for swimming at Lambton Pool, and it’s one of the area’s favourite public pools.The pool complex has a heated 50m, learners and toddlers pool as well as a diving pool. (The tower is not open for public use though). This swimming centre is popular with families as it includes an aquatic playground with play structure, large tipping bucket, water jets and a concrete splash pad. There is also a giant waterslide. An outside pool complex, Lambton Pool is open from late August to late May and is run by private operator BlueFit.

Wallsend Pool

Wallsend Swimming Pool

On a warm day, cool off at Wallsend Pool, a cute neighbourhood pool. It has everything you need for a fun family day out with a variety of pools to suit every age and swimming ability. The main attraction of the Wallsend Swimming Centre is a large solar-heated 50-metre pool to do your laps. There’s also a free swim area on one side of the pool which is great for families to congregate and play in the water. For families with babies and toddlers, there is also a shallow toddler pool. Entry fees apply. An outside pool complex, Wallsend Pool is open from late September to late April and is run by private operator BlueFit.

Mayfield Pool

Mayfield Swimming Centre

There’s lots of fun to enjoy at Mayfield Pool. It’s easy to spend a few hours here with two pools to suit different ages and swimming ability. It’s big enough to keep kids busy but small enough not to feel crowded. Enjoy splashing around in the 50 metre pool. If you feel like doing laps, there are dedicated lanes to swim. Otherwise, splash around in the large free play area. Bring pool noodles and pool toys to have some fun. Out of the water, kids can enjoy the basketball court, playground and large grassy area. Stockton Pool

Stockton Pool

At Stockton, you’re spoiled for choice when it comes to a swim. You can swim at Stockton Beach or choose the outdoor pools at Stockton Pool. It’s a great alternative for those who prefer pools. Located an easy bike ride or a 20-minute walk from the ferry wharf, Stockton Pool is a fun place to swim. Compared to other pools, we noticed it had fewer people even on a hot day. The pool consists of two pools, a solar heated 50 metre pool and a shallow learners pool. There is also a small playground and a volleyball net set up. Beresfield Pool

Beresfield Swimming Centre features a heated 50m, learners and toddler pool. There’s also playground equipment and grassy areas. An outside pool complex, Beresfield is open from late September to late April. Entry fees apply. Beresfield Swimming Centre is currently the only City of Newcastle managed pool and is located at Anderson Drive, Beresfield.

LAKE MACQUARIE

Charlestown Pool

Charlestown Pool

Run by Lake Macquarie City Council, Charlestown Swim Centre has facilities the whole family will enjoy. The swim centre boasts outdoor heated 25m and 50m pools. The 25m pool is shallower than the 50m pool, but is still a minimum of 1.1m deep, so parents will need to get in with younger kids.

Charlestown Pool

This swim centre also features a fantastic toddler splash pad for the small folk. Water fountains create dome-shaped waterfalls that are perfect for toddlers to hide underneath and play in. It also has a large pole with three tipping buckets which gradually fill up and empty out at different times. Charlestown Swim Centre is open year round. Entry fees apply.

Morisset Swim Centre

Morisset Swim Centre features an outdoor heated 25m pool, an outdoor heated 15m Learn to Swim pool as well as a wading pool for little ones. West Wallsend Swim Centre

West Wallsend is an indoor swim centre run by Lake Macquarie City Council and is open all year round. It has a heated 25m pool. Entry fees apply. West Wallsend Swim Centre is located at 35A Edden Street in West Wallsend.

Maitland Pool

Maitland Pool

In Maitland Park, you’ll find Maitland Aquatic Centre. It features a splash pad complete with a tipping bucket. No matter what the swimming level of your kids, this pool complex caters to them.

Maitland Pool

There’s a 50-metre outdoor pool as well as a 25-metre indoor heated pool. The indoor heated pool is used for swimming programs, including learn to swim and fitness classes. The pool offers disabled ramp access and is heated to a warm 28 degrees. This aquatic centre is run by Maitland City Council and the indoor pool is open year-round. The outdoor pool will be closed from end of April to end of September. Maitland Aquatic Centre is located at Les Darcy Drive in Maitland.

East Maitland Pool

Branxton Pool

Branxton Pool is an outdoor seasonal 33 metre pool with six lanes and ramp access. Bring along your toddler for some fun as there is also a covered toddler pool with step entry and water play features. Run by Cessnock City Council, it is located at 4 Maitland Street in Branxton. Cessnock City Council’s outdoor pool season is generally from October to March.

Kurri Kurri Aquatic and Fitness Centre is Cessnock City Council’s year round aquatic facility and is managed by Belgravia Leisure. Along with a small gymnasium the centre has an eight lane, 25m pool as well as a 10 metre program pool and leisure pool with a beach entry. It is located at Boundary Street in Kurri Kurri.

PORT STEPHENS

Lakeside Leisure Centre

Head to Raymond Terrace for a swim at Lakeside Leisure Centre. This pool features a 50 metre outdoor pool heated to 24-25 degrees plus an indoor heated pool featuring a beach area suitable for babies and toddlers. The indoor pool gradually deepens from ground level and has a large, very shallow area which makes it great for babies and toddlers.

At random times throughout the day, and depending on the number of people in the pool, the lifeguards turn on the water features consisting of three fountains, shallow spas and a deep spa area.

The facilities also include a kiosk, swim shop and recreational area with free BBQ facilities and children’s play area. Lakeside Leisure Centre is located at 3 Leisure Way in Raymond Terrace. It is open year round and is run by private operator Belgravia Leisure.

Tomaree Aquatic Centre

Enjoy a pool and waterslide combo! Tomaree Aquatic Centre in Port Stephens is a clean and well-maintained facility and a great place for all ages to cool off on a hot day. Tomaree Aquatic Centre is managed by Belgravia Leisure on behalf of Port Stephens Council and operates year-round.

Tomaree Aquatic Centre

With a 50 metre outdoor, heated pool, a shaded and heated kids pool, a shaded and heated wading pool plus a large waterslide, it’s a great place to spend a couple of hours with kids. Tomaree Aquatic Centre is located at 3 Aquatic Close in Salamander Bay.

Tiligerry Aquatic Centre

Located in Mallabula in Port Stephens, the Tiligerry Aquatic Centre is open all year round. The facility offers a heated 25m, 8 lane pool that is perfect for either recreational swimming or lap swimming. the pool is surrounded by beautiful grassed area, free electric BBQ, kiosk serving hot food, drinks and ice creams and a splash pad for the toddlers.
