Hidden in a quiet area behind Callaghan College Waratah Campus, near Hunter Multicultural Communities, Waratah Park is a top spot to relax in the shade while the kids play in the new playground.
Waratah Park Playground has been renewed as part of City of Newcastle’s Playground Replacement Program for 2023 and features balancing equipment, a bouncy, in in-ground trampoline, climbing tower and more.
Locate the playground from Harris Street, off Turton Road at Waratah. There are plenty of car parks right near the playground.
The new playground features two swings; a toddler swing and a regular swing.
There’s a small in-ground, accessible trampoline with a soft fall surround.
The climbing tower will appeal to younger kids and features stairs, a climbing wall, a bridge, a slide, a fireman’s pole and a play shop underneath. Younger ones will also enjoy the chair bouncy.
The timber balance course will appeal to older kids, who will also enjoy the swings and the spinner.
The majority of the playground base is woodchip, with soft fall under the swings, spinner, trampoline and bouncy and at the base of the slide.
Although the playground isn’t shaded, there’s plenty of surrounding shade provided by beautiful, big, old trees and a number of shaded park tables and benches to sit at.
Although not fully-fenced, the playground is safe from busy roads. The paths through the surrounding grounds make for a a peaceful walk. There are plenty of open, grassed areas for kids to run and play.
