Head to Gloucester for a farm-stay experience at Ashmar Farm Stay. It’s set on a  500 acre Hereford cattle stud and offers a true country experience. You can try your hand at milking a cow, collect farm eggs or feeding their animals and enjoy bushwalking through the property.

The property sleeps up to 13 people with the main cottage and an additional separate flat and bathroom. it’s a great option if you want to get away with a group of friends or family. You can self-cater or if you want a break from cooking, they offer a home-cooked three-course evening meal. Rates start from $150 per night (2 adults) and offer mid-week specials.

Bilpin Country Lodge

Get a taste of the country at Bilbin Country Lodge in the Blue Mountains. This farm stay experience provides plenty of fun for the whole family. Set on 10 acres, you and your kids can interact with the resident farm animals. At the lodge, there is Charlie Brown the Shetland pony, Fudge & Spock, two pet goats, Denton the Alpaca and lots of chickens giving fresh eggs every day. In addition to seeing the animals, there’s a game room, kids playground and outdoor spa to enjoy. If you’re an active family, choose from outdoor activities such as bushwalking, mountain biking, swimming, canoeing and kayaking. You can also go fruit picking for apples and peaches next door in season.  The Lodge comfortably sleeps up to 20 guests (incl all adults & children). Rates start from $275 per night for a family of three (2 night minimum).

Dusodie Holiday Farm

Head to Dusodie Farm in the Barrington Tops for a farm stay experience. You won’t run out of things to do with your family. There’s plenty of animals at this farm stay for kids to interact with. Feeding occurs in the afternoons or by prior arrangement to accommodate both guests and their hosts. Friendly farm animals include chickens, guinea fowl, turkeys, goats, sheep, cows. The fun doesn’t stop there though. It’s truly a family-friendly spot with a play cubby, sandpit and a 14 foot trampoline. You can also Swim in the River or explore upstream in a row boat. If you feel like fishing in the dams for yabbies or perch, Dusodie Farm supply fishing rods and tackle. Accommodation is either in a self contained 2-bedroom cottage, or a 1-bedroom cabin that looks down to the river. The tariff per night is $250/night for the cottage and $200/night for the cabin.

Goldvale Farmstay Upper Hunter Valley

You don’t need to go far to get to this farm stay.  Kookaburra Farmstay is located at Bobs Farm in beautiful Port Stephens. There’s a range of accommodation options to suit your family including 3 bedroom cottages, 1 bedroom and alcove cabins and a farmhouse which sleeps up to 19 people.

Kookaburra run a daily afternoon farm tour lasts 1 -1.5 hours. You’ll get to cuddle chickens and then see feed cows and calves and watch them being milked before enjoying a tractor ride to feed all the rest of the animals that live on the farm. There’s no shortage of animals at this farmstay including pigs, donkeys, sheep and more.

Ocean & Earth Farmstay

As well as feeding the farm animals such as horses, donkeys,  cows, ducks, peacock, and chooks, you can go swimming in their dam, go canoeing or yabbying or head out on a bush walk.
